Golden rectangle

Golden rectangle

So this marks the second presence of a golden rectangle in 365 sketches, but it also marks the likely last entry of the 500px square sketches. Ahhhh. It was a good run. Although every CD and album cover ever made has been a square, in theory, I have found it limiting for layout. The golden rectangle, beautiful in and of itself as a ratio, will hopefully give me the opportunity to make a vertical vs. horizontal layout, show a fuller story, and develop more complex compositional arrangements. Looking forward to sharing what I’ve come up with so far.

I have to admit that I find the square format rather limiting too. I freely admit I stole the dimension size for my projects from 365 (I didn’t investigate the size too much, I just figured it was a good layout for the web.) But the more I drew the more I recognized just how infrequently I draw in a square format. Weird.

I’ll continue with squares for a while, but I suspect I too may jump up to the golden rectangle eventually.

Cool, Paul! It definitely helps for all of us who grew up drawing on 8.5×11 inch paper, then 20×30 inch drawing paper. Changing to square format made sense early on, but I’m excited about what the new format is doing. 🙂
