We are who we are. It’s hard to break with what we know. I saw this idea somewhere, and wanted to pay a little Inkscape homage to the idea. Cause we’re all potatoes in one way or another, and potatoes gonna potate. Tomatoes gonna tomate. Haters gonna hate.

244 of 365 is a set of monograms for Dennis Nangle @dennang [typography] #Inkscape

So Dennis is a tweep (twitter-peep) who mentioned that his initials were pretty interesting, wink! While I don’t know him as well as most of my other monogram subjects, he’s a nice enough guy from the interactions we’ve had on Twitter, and I agree: His initials are pretty interesting. 🙂 Hope you enjoyed the set, Dennis!

242 of 365 is a set of monograms for Ana Devecka [typography] #Inkscape

Ana Devecka showed an interest when I started making monograms for friends, so here is my set for her. Ana is a sweetheart, creative and funny. She’s a mom and a wife, and very proud and dedicated to her family. She likes to help people, and always wants to find new ways to do it. I used this set to try to use font combinations to represent those qualities of hers. Are you interested in what Inkscape could do with your initials? Let me know!

240 of 365 is Sir Lancet-a-Lot and the Knights of Pokey Land #Inkscape

Sir Lancet a Lot
Sir Lancet a Lot

So this was in response to Khurt Williams request for me to work on the idea that he and his family came up with, essentially a character to raise awareness for Diabetes and the rituals that go with it. I like what I did, but I really prefer his original image that he gave me for inspiration a whole lot more:

Sir Lancet a Lot (Khurt Williams)

Thanks for the opportunity, Khurt, but quite honestly, I think your original is quite possibly the better solution.

This is a note of thanks to my new friends that I met and worked with in the Inkscape sessions at Princeton Public Library over the last five weeks. Special thanks to Janie Hermann and Janice Painter for helping to make it happen and keep it going. This was the subject of our last exercise, and we had a lot of fun with it. Thanks again, all!

I’ve received a strong response of interest (maybe jealousy?) in the “friend monograms” sketches, and I’m saying right here that if you ask for one, I’ll make every effort to make you one, or in this case, 12. I think letterforms and their relationship are art. I got a lot of help from fontographers on these, but the kerning, custom nodes, placement and relationship, etc., is mine. Thanks for asking, Dan! That’s what this project is all about.
