This is a modified photo from 1913 of a woman named Geraldine Ferrar, of whom I have no knowledge other than the photo. I found it in the public domain, which I assume is kind of obvious. All I did to it was bring it into the GIMP, duplicate the layer to create a background image, remove the background content of the original with a soft edged eraser brush, then create a new transparent layer between those two layers to paint on. I then painted the rays you see on the transparent layer using a brush in the shape of those rays. A simple effect, but it certainly gives some focus to Ms. Ferrar.

Geraldine was an opera and film star from the start of the 20th century who had love affairs with several famous men of her time. The Wikipedia article about her includes a nice bit of her singing with Enrico Caruso.

Thanks, Tim! I put the image up at about 11:45 p.m., or else I might have had more information about her. Thanks for the info! I thought she was kind of a looker.
I was going to leave a note identifying her as an early 20th-century opera singer, but Tim beat me to it! The Library of Congress has a collection of her personal papers — the “Scope and content” note in the finding aid ) makes interesting reading.
I’m glad you did, Jane! I really just thought she was kind of cute. Glad to know she was a whole lot more.
