Self portrait as Buddha

So I’ve been playing with my Facebook Profile Pic, and I did it mostly with my $100 Wacom Tablet. I’m always surprised and amazed at how easily you can modify a photographic image in Inkscape in order to transcend photography in and of itself. It’s a lot of fun to bring in a picture, trace bitmap in Inkscape, and start to work into it with the calligraphy tool. Hope you enjoyed this example of that.

While you are smiling in both your photo and the manipulated image, the image does indeed look friendlier, perhaps in part because you have made your eyes look almost Asian, imparting a certain Buddha-like peacefulness to the work of art.

An interesting observation, Tim! Others have remarked the same elsewhere, going as far as to call me “Kung-Fu Master” in this image. I also but the highlight in my left eye in not-quite-the-right spot, which gives a sort of cross-eyed effect, which I think adds a bit, strangely, to the friendly appearance. Thanks for stopping by!
