On November 18th, 2011 I gave a talk at NJEdge.net’s Conference 8.0 in Plainsboro, NJ with my Princeton Colleague Ben Johnston on the topic of WordPress being used at Princeton to solve various academic needs.
I’m so excited! I learned that I was a part of a showcase on the WordPress Post A Day blog today! I wanted to say how much I appreciate all that WordPress does to make itself the best publishing platform, CMS, and blogging engine out there, and open source to boot! I also love that you regularly push us to keep using your engine in creative ways. Thanks for the mention, and hope you guys keep up your great work forever.

Lately I’ve been remembering my mother by sketching objects in Inkscape that remind me of her. My mom worked on a heavy duty sewing machine quite a lot when I was a kid. She always had a fine set of scissors that I would use from time to time for really horrible-for-scissors tasks, like cutting wires, and she would get really upset. Now that I have fine tools of my own, it makes perfect sense why she was so upset. In this and many other ways she taught me to appreciate delicate instruments of creation and work. Thanks, Mom!

Press release: “”“An Introduction to Today’s Social Networking”
Computer Program to Explore
Facebook, Twitter, etc. June 1st
Today hundreds of million of people take advantage of ‘Social Networking’ websites through which they share information on a variety of topics and interests as varied as our society and human history,” says John LeMasney, Manager of Technology Training at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. “Some people, however, find the concept of ‘social networking’ to be confusing, pointless, and a waste of time. I want to explain why it does not have to be.” LeMasney will explore some of the most popular social networking websites in a program entitled “An Introduction to Today’s Social Networking”. “There are literally hundreds of online communities one can join, each with their own culture and purpose,” says LeMasney. “During my program, I will demonstrate how one can use popular websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, LinkedIn and WordPress. I plan to highlight their key features, advantages, and disadvantages, as well as how to use them safely.” As Manager of Technology Training at Rider University since 1998, LeMasney assists faculty, staff and students in integrating technology into their work, classroom, and extracurricular activities. A Fine Arts graduate of the University of Arts in Philadelphia, he recently received a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with distinction from Rider University. He holds LPI Level One Certification in Linux Administration and chairs the Ewing Web Committee. A self-proclaimed “open web advocate and open source evangelist,” LeMasney is also a designer, artist, writer, technologist and consultant who lives and works in the Ewing area. You can find and connect with John, known as “lemasney” on Facebook, Twitter, and Gmail.

This design, with help from Sarah Klockars-Clauser (photo © Sarah Klockars-Clauser for openphoto.net CC:Attribution-ShareAlike) was done by using the technique in the following screencast , the first ever on 365sketches.
