This is a fork sketch, drawn using the word “food”. I’m a foodie, what else can I say?

I really love typography play. Inkscape is my favorite tool, bar none, for this. I do it all the time. Enter a piece of text with the text tool and choose and apply a font that begins to speak to the end design in your mind. I chose ballpark as a starting point. Then select the text, and do a path/union operation (ctrl-shift-plus), which turns the text into a single editable path. Then use the node tool to tweak, move, resize, and shape the edges of your text until you have the shape that you want. I added a dot to the “i” inside of one of my flourishes, and joined it with the existing path using a second union operation.  In this particular case, I added a rectangle with a gradient to create a vignette in the background, and applied a beveling filter to the text to give it some depth.

I’ve looked at my stats, and people keep coming back here for a few things. In particular, people come for sketches about food, color, object as text, drawings, cupcakes, and animals. I couldn’t get them all in here, but I certainly got a few. Enjoy!

Sometimes in this project, inspiration just comes from the tool itself. I love Inkscape’s ability to easily duplicate and clone objects, and to have those objects come together in interesting ways. Starting with a single circle, I built up modules, then duplicated the modules until I had the design you see here.

I feel like a man with the step of an elephant

This is a metaphor for me. I often feel that I still have the weight that I’ve lost when I walk. I feel that my personality is heavy when I am light. I feel that my steps in conversation, exchange, and entry is sometimes clumsy and heavy-footed. I feel like I am often seen as a 2 ton graceless monster before someone knows me, and I work to make that extra shadow disappear for people as quickly as possible.

So this one is pretty straightforward: In Inkscape, place some text with the text tool, convert to a path, ungroup, then union, so that the text is now a single path. Place a line across it with the Bezier tool. Select both paths and intersect, using the line to cut the text. Move the bottom part to the right, select and rotate the text.
