Abstract: In this session, I gave an overview and demo of the open source vector design application known as Inkscape, followed by a brief exercise in the free 3d modeling tool from Google called Sketchup. .
This was a modified idea first proposed by Dan Wockee where the Android would appear with a Groucho Marx mask. Thanks, Dan, for the spark, and I hope this still works for you/does not get us fined. So if you know me, you know I’m into branding and Open Source. I thought it was funny that AT&T decided to use an Android-like mascot thing for its advertising, especially because I think that AT&T possibly thinks that consumers can’t tell the difference between the Android logo and the cute but similar unnamed mascots created by Jungeun Kim ). I mean no disrespect at all to Kim’s work, but I think AT&T could have done a better job in their brand distinction for Windows phones.
I’ve broken several copyright laws here by mixing Android, AT&T, and Star Wars universes, but if they want, they can ask me to take it down. However, I think I have a case for parody in the piece.
Incidentally, Google allows use of its logo under a Creative Commons license (yes!), as long as you say “Portions of this page are modifications based on work created and shared by Google and used according to terms described in the Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution License.” Nice job, Google, once again.
Also, I recorded tonight’s screencast, but it failed. I did capture the audio though, so feel free to listen to the process.

I’m about the biggest fanboy that Google has, but I’ll also be the first one to tell you it’s kind of scary how much they know about me. I believe that they totally live up to their idea of “don’t be evil” and I love the things that they are doing to know me better, but it does make me hard to sell their ideas when the things that they do have a high creepy factor. I’m okay with a little creepy if it helps me get to my info quicker. I’m okay with Google knowing who I am.
