Inkscape makes it especially easy to manipulate the shape of text to meet the edges of a recognizable silhouette.

An interesting use of the text follows path tool in Inkscape to show a bit of optimism.
On Mac OS X, some applications, like GIMP and Inkscape, use ctrl combinations for other purposes, rendering a ctrl-click (like a right-click, brings up a contextual menu) inoperable. In cases where a touchpad is present, a two finger click works equally well. You might also consider connecting a two-button mouse, though given the touchpad solution, it may be unnecessary.
So this is an explanation of the two key formats that you can spit out of Inkscape, the open source vector illustration program. I made it to explain the conceptual difference to my digital media communication class.
On June 4th, 2012, I gave a long session on using Inkscape in-depth to the Long Island Library Regional Consortium. We discussed bitmap versus vector images, and introduced all of Inkscape’s main tools, then ran through recreating an illustration. Some feedback I got after the session included:
This was a late revision (the final is slightly different) in a recent project where I had the privilege of helping to design and produce a trade show banner set for Hamilton Township. I used Inkscape to gather, layout, and design the panels according to client specifications, and then brought them into SketchUp to help the clients visualize what the product would look like.
