This is another sketch in Inkscape using a Wacom Tablet. There’s a load of symbolism here, I’m almost sure of it. 🙂

This a Haiku in syllabic form only; In formal Haiku, the words should paint a picture, using concrete sensory imagery, and move the reader to be in the created space for a moment. As it is, I just liked the rhythm that the syllabic form (5-7-5) lends to the idea of acting against the wrongs that we find in life.

283 of 365 is a soda can #drawing #Inkscape #sketch

Soda can
Soda can

Here’s a wacom based sketch in Inkscape of an off brand soda can. I used the calligraphy tool exclusively, varying the width of the lines thick to thin as I worked. I really love how the buildup occurs in translucent lines. It’s like working with wet pastels or watercolor crayons, but with the ability to easily erase or modify the lines. A very fun and forgiving technique.

Tiger
Tiger

Ana Devecka asked me to make a Tiger as part of this project’s sub-series on animals made out of text. Thanks to Ana for the suggestion. One personal innovation for me in this sketch was the treatment of the color and body of the tiger, which I created separately from the letter node editing, then fused with the letters by way of the clipping feature. Hope you like it!

Craig Smith Music Project

So my good friend and sometime collaborator, Craig Smith, asked me to look through my fonts to see what I thought might be a good match for his soon-to-be-released CD of electronica. He passed me the existing cover art and notes, and I gathered from the work and from his description that he was looking for something dark, edgy, and crisp. I gave him a list of about 12 fonts as a sample, and we whittled it down to this set of five. I was very happy to be asked, and I love the idea that I might be mentioned in his notes. Thanks for reaching out Craig, and congratulations on the project!

Here’s the latest in the series, a squirrel, an incredibly common animal here in the Northeast. Thanks to Amy Kaufman for the suggestion!
