In case anyone still doesn’t know, I’m leaving my long-term position at Rider at the end of this week to begin work at Princeton University. So I was talking on the phone, and my friend Marianne stopped by, and in her typical polite fashion, to keep from interrupting me, she made me a note and showed me through the window. It said simply, on an 8.5×11 sheet, in Sharpie “Good Luck (smiley) Have fun! i will miss you (frownie).” It was a beautiful, simple sentiment, and was more than the object, but the act itself. Â I wanted to capture the beautiful simple sentiment in the note and share it with you. Thank you, Marianne. I’ll miss you, and Rider, dearly.
