I got approached yesterday to do a wordmark for a Princeton based band featuring the amazingly talented guitarist Ed Hermann. They needed some branding so that they could advertise that they are playing Communiversity in Princeton this year. I hope you get a chance to come out for lots of reasons, but this sealed it for me. Knock ’em dead, Ed!

In this talk, my first at Princeton University, I introduced several tools that I use to do visual work, including the GIMP, Inkscape and Picasa.

On March 1st, 2011,  I became the new Manager of Educational Technology Training and Outreach at Princeton University. I’m a part of OIT in Academic Services. I help to manage the personal and small group training for tools like Blackboard, WordPress, and other Princeton supported educational technologies. I also help to manage the seminar series including Lunch ‘n Learn and Productive Scholar.
I decided to update my Facebook profile picture to commemorate my transition from Rider to Princeton. I wanted to show the growth and possibility of Princeton, capture the new start that it provides, and the glory of working at one of the finest universities in the world.
So I was looking through past sketches, and I came across an effect that I had done in Inkscape that adapts well (better even) to the GIMP. I created a few lines in a transparent layer using a wacom tablet. Then I duplicated that layer and blurred it. Finally, I created a dark red layer underneath. The result is a glow effect.
