The latest in my series of animals made of text, a seal. For the landscape, I used Inkscape’s spraypaint tool to paint with a square made with the rectangle tool.
“Pinnipeds (/ˈpɪnᵻˌpɛdz/) (from Latin pinna “fin” and pes, pedis “foot”[2]), commonly known as seals,[a] are a widely distributed and diverse clade of carnivorous, fin-footed, semiaquatic marine mammals. They comprise the extant families Odobenidae (whose only living member is the walrus), Otariidae (the eared seals: sea lions and fur seals), and Phocidae (the earless seals, or true seals). There are 33 extant species of pinnipeds, and more than 50 extinct species have been described from fossils. While seals were historically thought to have descended from two ancestral lines, molecular evidence supports them as a monophyletic lineage (descended from one ancestral line). My friend Beth passed on a great article by Kevin Kelly in the New York Times about technology as part of homeschooling curricula. I did not agree with all of them, but one of the concepts that he discovered stood out as a great one, especially for someone like me — this is why I prefer open source software, like Inkscape.
This is one of the more successful pieces in the series of animals made of text. In this case, I decided to make a cat out of text. I used Inkscape, imported the silhouette of a cat, and then typed the text on top of it. I converted the text to a path, and began to shape the text to meet the edges of the silhouette in such a way as to still have it be readable. I hope you enjoy it!

I love this quote. It’s definitely one of my favorites, and a small reminder that when disaster strikes, there is often a great thing or two that result, if you look for it. Looking for it is key.
Long story short, I felt like drawing a puppy. I’m a cat person myself, but people love their dogs, and I like drawing things people love. I tried to capture the energy of a puppy, and I like what I came up with. Plus, I wanted to play with the tweener exclamation ZOMG. Hope you liked it!
