This is a quick stylus based sketch of a coffee cup. This year, I’m scaling back my posting frequency to a much more manageable at-least-once-a-week. I did the sketch to test using my Wacom tablet in GIMP on Linux. Eraser, pressure sensitivity, and responsiveness all work very nicely. I like the resulting energy of the drawing, as it reminds me a bit of caffeine.

I heart coffee. I decided to do a quick Sunday morning illustration of my favorite coffee mug. I love using Inkscape to do illustration with vector shapes, as opposed to drawing with a stylus. Either are enjoyable, but the building by shapes tends to be a bit more challenging for me. Hope you enjoy it.

Design Course for the non-designer.
Tonight, at 7 pm in the Technology Center at Princeton Public Library, I will be teaching a design course for free to the public about the basic tenets of graphic design. No registration is necessary. In the class, we will discuss color, typography, layout, shape, format, tools, inspiration and more. The increasing importance of visual literacy for communication in an increasingly visual communication environment means that those who are simply using text, clip-art, and other more common tools are making messages that are getting lost among more visual presentations. The diurnal light cycle has a crucial influence on all life on earth. Unfortunately, modern society has modified this life-governing cycle by stressing maximum production and by giving insufficient attention to the ecological balance and homeostasis of the human metabolism.
