June-July 2011: GIMP Workshops

quail ridge studio floorplan

In June and July of 2011, I presented a series of six workshops on the open source photomanipulation application called the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) at Princeton Public Library. In the series, inspired by one of the attendees, I decided to focus on emotion and color in design. Below are the presentation framework, the source and project files, fonts, brushes, etc.

Project files are available at in the folders palettes, fonts, textures and brushes.

Can anyone explain to me, in a world where we have all of our contacts in our pocket, and a search engine that allows for infinitely free search, why we still load tons of paper containing immediately out of date information onto driveways and doorsteps every year? I’m confoundedly confused about it.

48 of 365 is a pair of squirrels #GIMP

Philosophy squirrels
Philosophy squirrels

So, this is essentially an inside joke between some old friends. However, I think you can appreciate it from a general point of view too. I hereby name this meme ‘philosophy squirrels’.

In the GIMP, I took a single image that I found in MorgueFile of a squirrel, and mirrored it, then duplicated the pair into a new layer, and moved it down. After I had them where I wanted them, I added the text and paths to have them chat. I thought about adding a coolfaced troll to nod to Shaun Holland, but maybe next time.
