Girl skating
Girl skating

This is just a simple quiet sketch of a girl skating. Even though she’s on rollerblades, the treatment is definitely intent on giving you the impression she’s on ice. Fun stuff.

So here’s a moon rising over the hills. I used a photo texture and the masking tool to create the moon’s texture, and for the stars, I used a single small circle and duplicated randomly with the spraypaint tool.

Phil Shapiro, a long time supporter of this project, who contacts me regularly about Inkscape related stories and sites. He recently contacted me and suggested:

Here’s an inspirational quote I totally made up today. “Life is a rich tapestry of metaphors interwoven with another rich tapestry of other metaphors.” Can you give this a 365 Sketches treatment to place the text centered (landscape) with a weaving theme around all four borders? <giggle> phil

Thanks, Phil! I didn’t know exactly what to do with the weaving around the four borders, but I really love the way this font and color renders a rich interweaving tapestry. 🙂

I really love Inkscape’s clip and mask tools in the object menu. It allows you to have clean crisp lines like those you find in a font come together with a wildly sketchy line from a wacom tablet and make a beautiful, interesting combination with very little effort.

Autumnal Maple Leaf
Autumnal Maple Leaf

I made this maple leaf using Inkscape and my Wacom tablet. The chills and strong winds of fall are really coming on now here in the Northeast US, and I wanted to capture some of the great sights I’ve seen lately.
