The Strange Woods
The Strange Woods

I got approached a while ago by none other than two of my favorite Librarians, Julie Strange and Andy Woodworth, about the idea of helping them to brand a new blog venture that at the time was tentatively called “The Strange Woods” which has to be the best name ever conceived out of two author’s names. I recently freed up my sketching schedule and got to work to produce these mockups for their blog header. Unfortunately, I just got word back that naming the project is still underway, and The Strange Woods is likely going to be called something else. I really loved the designs, though, and thought I’d share them with you.

Razor monkey

I really have no idea where this came from. I just decided to mix and match two unlikely objects. And that gives you a razormonkey. Watch out — he’ll cut you.

339 of 365 is made of tiny circles #Inkscape #design

Made of circles
Made of circles

I was inspired to do this by a picture I saw on ffffound — I started with a silhouette, made a small circle, then used Inkscape’s spraypaint tool to fill in the silhouette with clones of the small circle. Because the spraypaint tool is kind of messy and spontaneous even with the tightest settings, most of the work here was moving wayward circles back into the edges of the silhouette, as well as resizing and placing circles to follow the contour of it.

I just thought this was a funny way to arrange text, and was looking for a reason for the pieces to be blocking each other.
