I recently decided to jump-start submissions for requests on 365 by asking for random captions and titles for pieces. This isn’t my idea. The best example of this I can think of is explodingdog who has done this for about 10 years. If you’ve never seen his quirky, sometimes jolting illustrations for caption submissions, please google him. This sketch is in response to Kelly Lake’s poetic, very interesting submission “I swallowed my life, and it has consumed me.” Thanks Kelly! You’re the best, and I haven’t told you in a while.

This is a lilting, ending refrain from one of my favorite songs. Karma Police, from Radiohead’s revolutionary album, OK Computer. The lyric lays over an original shot of Seattle, which is an amazing and beautiful city in the shadow of a mountain.

365sketches.org show at Mercer County Library HQ, Lawrenceville, NJ

I showed prints from my 365 Sketches project in the east gallery of the Mercer County Library Headquarters in Lawrence Township, NJ. The show was up for the entire month of February, 2011, and the opening reception was from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday February 6th, 2011.  During the reception, I gave an overview and talk that explained the history and processes of the project.

So this poster is my way of saying that I’m not ready to stop using Inkscape for daily sketches, and that other open source applications might be used to complete an idea. I could have done this in the GIMP, but because of the text heavy and hard-edged content, it made more sense in Inkscape. From time to time, I enjoy a cigar, and when you walk into a cigar shop the first thing you note aside from the aroma is the vocabulary and culture of cigars. I wish I had this poster when I was learning about the different styles, but hopefully others will benefit from this.
