In GIMP. I used two layers, the original without blur, beneath a duplicate layer with full blur. Then I applied a black to white gradient on a layer mask on the blurred layer, revealing the in-focus layer. The photo is license free from Morguefile, and not mine.

Day 120: dark hand #GIMP

In a class on human anatomy drawing in my undergraduate fine arts degree, we drew 50 hands and feet a week. It was one of my favorite classes. Drawing hands with a Wacom is far more challenging than more traditional physical media, but I’m going to try to improve.
