Shaun's Scion
Shaun’s Scion

My friend Shaun has a uniquely shaped car. He’s recently come under fire in a certain Facebook thread in which people are trying to determine whether it looks more like a lunchbox or a breadbox, but regardless the way it ended up was that if it belonged to Sarah, it would have special effects that would make it jump and vibrate like her phone when she gets a text. So here you have Shaun’s car if Sarah owned it.

Kitty made out of text

This is one of the more successful pieces in the series of animals made of text. In this case, I decided to make a cat out of text. I used Inkscape, imported the silhouette of a cat, and then typed the text on top of it. I converted the text to a path, and began to shape the text to meet the edges of the silhouette in such a way as to still have it be readable. I hope you enjoy it!

Elephant made out of text

Elephant made out of text

One of my favorite animals, the elephant, the latest in this text based animals sub-project.

‘Elephants are mammals of the family Elephantidae and the largest existing land animals. Three species are currently recognised: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. Elephantidae is the only surviving family of the order Proboscidea; extinct members include the mastodons. The family Elephantidae also contains several now-extinct groups, including the mammoths and straight-tusked elephants. African elephants have larger ears and concave backs, whereas Asian elephants have smaller ears, and convex or level backs. Distinctive features of all elephants include a long trunk, tusks, large ear flaps, massive legs, and tough but sensitive skin. The trunk, also called a proboscis, is used for breathing, bringing food and water to the mouth, and grasping objects. Tusks, which are derived from the incisor teeth, serve both as weapons and as tools for moving objects and digging. The large ear flaps assist in maintaining a constant body temperature as well as in communication. The pillar-like legs carry their great weight.’

Platypus made out of text #design #typography #Inkscape

Platypus
Platypus text

I got called out by a friend of Dan Wadlinger’s to make a Platypus. I thought it was an interesting challenge, even if I already had a very cute P animal in this series. Hope you like it!

“The platypus is among nature’s most unlikely animals. In fact, the first scientists to examine a specimen believed they were the victims of a hoax. The animal is best described as a hodgepodge of more familiar species: the duck (bill and webbed feet), beaver (tail), and otter (body and fur). Males are also venomous. They have sharp stingers on the heels of their rear feet and can use them to deliver a strong toxic blow to any foe.” curated by lemasney from Platypus | National Geographic at http://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/p/platypus/

“The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), also known as the duck-billed platypus, is a semiaquatic egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth. The animal is the sole living representative of its family (Ornithorhynchidae) and genus (Ornithorhynchus), though a number of related species have been found in the fossil record. The first preserved platypus body was thought to have been a fake, made of several animals sewn together,[3] when it was first looked at by scientists in 1799.[4]” curated by lemasney from Platypus – Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platypus

A pig made out of text

The latest in my animal typography studies, A pig made out of text cc-by lemasney. Hope you enjoyed it!

‘A pig is any of the animals in the genus Sus, within the even-toed ungulate family Suidae. Pigs include domestic pigs and their ancestor, the common Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa), along with other species. Pigs, like all suids, are native to the Eurasian and African continents, ranging from Europe to the Pacific islands. Suids other than the pig are the babirusa of Indonesia, the pygmy hog of Asia, the warthog of Africa, and another genus of pigs from Africa. The suids are a sister clade to peccaries. Juvenile pigs are known as piglets.[1] Pigs are highly social and intelligent animals.[2] With around 1 billion individuals alive at any time, the domestic pig is among the most populous large mammals in the world.[3][4] Pigs are omnivores and can consume a wide range of food.[5] Pigs are biologically similar to humans and are thus frequently used for human medical research.[6]’
