My Mozilla Contest Entry

So this is my entry for Mozilla’s 2010 t-shirt contest. Mozilla is Firefox‘s parent company. You can see the entry in context at , and vote for it, if you like. They asked for a design that promoted key elements of Mozilla’s vision, which is openness, innovation, and community, all things you may know I hold very dear myself.

How I made this image about Mozilla in Inkscape

In Inkscape, I took these four words and put them in via the text tool, then converted them all to paths. Then, I used the Bezier tool and the pencil tool to connect the letterforms and create tendrils which I saw as life forms seeking out connection. I saw the design as airy, connected, and creative, things I love and respect about Mozilla. If you like this design, I’d love it if you could vote it up at

About Mozilla

“Mammon slept. And the beast reborn spread over the earth and its numbers grew legion. And they proclaimed the times and sacrificed crops unto the fire, with the cunning of foxes. And they built a new world in their own image as promised by the sacred words, and spoke of the beast with their children. Mammon awoke, and lo! it was naught but a follower.”

Lackie, Robert J., John W. LeMasney, & Kathleen M. Pierce. “Introduction: The Myths, Realities, and Practicalities of Working with Gen M.” In Teaching Generation M: A Handbook for Librarians and Educators. Eds. Vibiana Bowman Cvetkovic & Robert J. Special thanks to Robert Lackie for inviting me, and both Robert and Kathleen Pierce for co-authoring.  Generation M is an important topic to consider, and I feel that Robert’s book does a great job of examining the topic.

Stephan worked with me to reveal tools and techniques (ethernet sniffers, etc.) for protecting children at home from online predators.

Dombrowski, S. C., LeMasney, J. W., Ahia, C. E., & Dickson, S. A. (2004).  Protecting children from online sexual predators: Technological, legal, and psychoeducational considerations.  Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, 35(1), 65-73.

‘Abstract: Professional psychologists should more fully understand the dangers of online sexual solicitation and ways in which to protect youth from sexual predators who use the Internet. Although the Internet has many positive aspects, one of the most pernicious aspects is its potential use for online sexual predation. The Internet represents a medium that allows sexual predators access to countless children in a relatively anonymous environment. This article reviews the general strategies of sexual perpetrators and their characteristics, as well as the online strategies and characteristics of the cyber sexual predator. Information on how to protect children from this crime through a review of technological, psychoeducational, and legal considerations is provided. A description of the relevant laws as they relate to online solicitation and practicing psychologists is also provided. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)’
